Skatefest at Fairfax – exclusive review by Diego Zazueta
The sun was shining and the weather was nice on both days. Just perfect for two days of skating! Everywhere you looked there were people skating, wether on the ramps or in the parking lot.
People of all ages just wanted to get their boards out and go for a spin. With plenty of live music and food and drink everyone was in it for the long haul.
We were treated to Alt rock music from the 90’s to act as the soundtrack to our skate endeavors. The competitions were the high point of the day.
With everyone watching or competing it was hard to get away for the ramps. On several occasions there were item tosses. It was fun to watch the girls throw out merchandise and watch all the guys fight over them.
One of the thing that surprised me the most wasn’t all the amazing skating or the great music, but the amount of girl skaters who there were.
Some even competed! And they were really really good! From what I can tell the gap in numbers between boy/girl skaters is getting smaller and smaller every year.
It was a pleasure to be part of this event representing sPACYcLOUd. I had a wonderful time meeting new people and watching everyone skate and I can’t wait to do it again next year. If you miss this event then you missed out!
